Update to OSX 10.6 – Snow Leopard
7 09 2009Hi there 2 days ago I got my Snow Leopard DVD – yeah. After making a full backup (time machine) of my system I started the simple update process. I just deselected some unused languages and let the system do the rest. After 20-30 minutes the Installation was aborted by a failure which was not described in detail. Afterwards I checked the file system and found a not repairable filesystem error. I rebooted the system, made some filesystem checks using the harddrive utility program and after an additional attempt of updating I did it and everything was working fine. If anybody has accounted the same problem and knows details, please post a comment here.

Slow iPhone 3G after 3.0 OS update
6 07 2009After recognizing some issues with laggy application response and slow input fields and keyboard entries on the iPhone 3G after the update to 3.0 I did a little of googling around if there are any news, rumors or solutions on that. What I found surprised a little bit. It seems so that Apple is aware of memory leakage within the new OS 3.0 release of the iPhone and tell the user to do a hard reset or a reboot once a day or when the phone starts to get laggy because the working memory fills up after starting and stopping numerous application. I also tried this and this did the trick, but this is not a solution for me. So I read a few threads even on the apple forum, where people were complaining and hoping that there will be done something about this. The thing I did so funny it sounds, I filed a feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ That’s the minimum I can do. You can do that also and maybe Apple reacts on that by fixing the bugs (because these are obvious bugs) when there are filed enough feedback surveys on their page according to this problem. Describe you problems in detail, to help them track the bug down, it’s for your own good. Downgrade to 2.2.1 is not an option for me because Apple braged in their advertisements that the OS 3.0 is soooo fast and so straight forward and so on…., so let’s fix them the bugs, file the feedback at the above mentioned link.

ACHTUNG: Betrugsmail kursiert – Paypal

iPhone looses connection / Internet Connection
16 06 2009Today I had a strange behaviour on my iPhone 3G. When trying to open my emails I got a “no connection to the internet available” against the settings pane, which told me that my 3G Connection is configured and switched on. The only thing I was missing was the connection icon at the right of the provider logo. I tried to switch on and of 3G, checked my connection point settings, nothing helped. It seemed like the daemon responsible for the connections EDGE, 3G and WLAN died somehow. I restarted the device and everything was fine again. A few days ago I encountered messages like “Network Connection Lost” during the day. Has or had anybody out there similar problems??? iPhone 3G free for all providers, no jailbreak.

arRsync does not start syncing
2 06 2009Today I started right with a weird behaviour. I am using arRsync to sync my iPhoto Originals to my NAS box within my home network. I configured the sync and pressed the start button. arRsync told me “staring Sync…”. Nothing suspicious here unless it did not start for about half an hour or more. I checked the error log, nothing. I checked the network traffic, nothing. I checked the processes cpu utilization, nothing. After I detached my external usb drive which is also my time machine backup medium, arRsync immediately began syncing the prior configured job. It seems like an attached time machine backup volume with time machine activated is kind of blocking the rsync possiblities of osx. Did anybody out there detect the same behaviour, if yes, we could open up a bug, meanwhile I am trying to reproduce the error.

iMovie – Photo Booth does not start – Quartz Extreme Error!!
27 05 2009Today I encountered a problem when starting iMovie. A small dialog box appeared telling me that I need a graphic card which supports Quartz Extreme. After pressing the ok button iMovie shutdown. I never had this before, but after googling around a litte I found out that quite a bunch of people has this problem. It seems that OSX starting at version 10.5.2 got this problem when prior working with an additional external display or when the machine comes back from suspend mode. A simple logout and relogin does the thing as mentioned here but I would appreciate when Apple’s developer would fix this bug. There is enough information and hints on the web to pin down the bug. There is no need to reboot your machine as mentioned in some articles, after a new login quartz is coming up ok. I have not checked if there is allready a bug opened at apple for this.
