Some of you probably might have noticed ICM532 chipset based webcams freezing on breezy (for a comprehensive list refer to: http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html ) when u turn on gnomemeeting or camorama. Herez the fix for that:
FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS! DONT TAKE SHORTCUTS OR MAKE MODIFICATIONS IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING
You need to do the following step by step
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r` linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r` build-essential gcc-3.4
wget http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca50x/Download/spca5xx-20060501.tar.gz
tar xvfz spca5xx-20060501.tar.gz
cd spca5xx-20060501
sudo make CC=gcc-3.4
sudo modprobe -r spca5xx
sudo rm -rf /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/usb/media/spca5xx*
sudo make install
sudo modprobe spca5xx

8 05 2006

For all out there who are interested in linux as a fully blown desktop environment should join the ubuntu community. I have myself only made very good experience in using Ubuntu Linux. I can do everything I can do with the “DontSayTheName” OS. For some special requirements for hardware of specialized software you have to do a little googling and you will get alternatively mentioned software or support on how to fix you problem. This is a small prize beeing payed for beeing independent. So if there are any questions out there about Ubuntu you want to aks, feel free, I’ll try to get you the appropriate answer.
