Hi, a few days ago I was revisiting my contacts in apple’s addressbook. I found some contact where I had no images attached. I opened up iPhoto and dropped the images I wanted to the contact. Afterwards I synchronized my iPhone to get the changes done. Next day my wife called me and the iPhone kind of froze. No more touch events were recognized, sloppy animations, really bad experience. After rebooting 2 times I recognized that the behaviour is tied to the much too big image of the contact of my wife. So be aware if you rework your contacts, that the images you take for a contact would not be too big, if not it is possible that your iphone freezes on phoning the contact because the os is swapping memory. You can evaluate if a image is too big, if you goto edit contacts, select a contact and if it takes a long amount of time to load the contact that’s a hint of an image too big.

iPhone OS 3.0 first review
17 06 2009Hi out there! I was waiting all day here in Austria for Apple to release the new iPhone OS 3.0. 30 Minutes ago iTunes told me that there is a new version for my iPhone 3G available. After downloading the 230 MB of the new image iTunes started to actualize the phone. 15 minutes later and one message “unplug the phone, enter sim pin code and reconnect” later my iPhone was flawlessly running with the new OS. Congratulations Apple. No painpoints there after the upgrade. No errors, all applications are there, all videos all songs, everything perfectly like it was before. First impressions in using the phone did not give me any lacks in responsiveness of the phone or any slowdowns I would have expected like there have been on the iPhone first generation and the OS version 2.0 Update. The new spotlight feature is very usable and the only app where the reaction of the phone (screen) gets a little dogged. I also synchronized to check out if everything works fine and here also everything as we expect it from Apple. So as a final statement after a few minutes of testing around: Congratulations, you did a great job so far as I can judge from here and now.

Today I detected that the update erased the settings of the mobile data network settings for UMTS (3G). You have to set the properties new, details for what to set there you can get at your providers homepage! For A1 in Austria, see images below or settings here or directly at A1 homepage.
If you want to enter the information manually see images below or this list:
- APN: free.a1.net
- username: ppp@a1plus.at
- password: ppp
- MMSC: mmsc.A1.net (OHNE http:// !)
- MMS-Proxy: 194.48.124.71:8001
(leave the last two fields empty). After having done these changes, restart your iPhone. To get your mobile provider data using profiles which is also possible to use with not jailbreaked iPhones use this site here. After making all these settings and rebooting the iPhone MMS Button in Messages Application and MMS send possiblity in VoiceNote app where present and working.

iPhone looses connection / Internet Connection
16 06 2009Today I had a strange behaviour on my iPhone 3G. When trying to open my emails I got a “no connection to the internet available” against the settings pane, which told me that my 3G Connection is configured and switched on. The only thing I was missing was the connection icon at the right of the provider logo. I tried to switch on and of 3G, checked my connection point settings, nothing helped. It seemed like the daemon responsible for the connections EDGE, 3G and WLAN died somehow. I restarted the device and everything was fine again. A few days ago I encountered messages like “Network Connection Lost” during the day. Has or had anybody out there similar problems??? iPhone 3G free for all providers, no jailbreak.

Vorgehensweise:
- iPhone synchronisieren = Backup
- iPhone voll aufladen lassen
Danke Apple Support Team.

iSquint – convert .flv to .mov
6 04 2009As a user of the firefox downloadhelper plugin and apple user I want to have my videos in mp4, mov or mpeg format. Downloadhelper generates .flv files which have to be converted. iSquint may here be the tool of choice. It is no longer supported and there is no more development on the tool but it works flawless for me. Simply drop files you want to convert for your iPod or iPhone to the list within the gui, press start, that’s it. Download Link.

Cams Ahoi for the iPhone
24 02 2009My first application review (sooo excited
).
Yesterday I tumbled over this application which provides us with the aid of detecting all the nasty speed boxes on our way into our cubicles around the world. I was a little sceptical that the application would properly work in “Austria” – where the f*** is Austria, but I was surprised in a positive way because the software detected all stationary boxes on a test drive through a not very well known small city in Austria called Mödling. The user interface is intuitive like most iPhone applications are:

- the top most part tells you how strong the gps signal ist, on the right side when actualizing a cursor is running
- the car inside the “green ball” signals that there are no cameras within the user devined range (the range is a circle in meters around your gps signal). The “green ball” changes to a speed box symbol if one is near. If you have turned on signals you will be notfied with different signals.
- the blue bar below the car signal tells you how far away the next box is.
- the circle section below the blue bar signals the type of speed box (traffic light, stationary or mobile) and the speed limit you have to obey for not getting fined.
- right below this the street where the speed measurement takes place is listed.
If you tap on the info icon in the right bottom corner you will come to the settings pane:

This preferences do not have to be explained at all I think. What I suggest is, that you configure the alert distance within cities or villages to 100-300m and outside to 500m so you don’t get too much warnings when you are in town and you can have a break the right way on the highways.
The date Cams Ahoy is using come from the scdb, this is the european speedcamera database. So if want to have more detailed information on the scdb visit their homepage.
An additional comment maybe placed here, the energy consumption of the application is quite enormous due to high gps activity in combination with the display on all the time, so be aware that 1 hour driving with this can empty you iPhones battery. You will have to purchase a carcharger too if you want to use it on long distance trips. This one made some good tests.
The price for me is perfect. Nice application using good data. Go on like that guys.

iPhone A1 APN (Mobiles Datennetz) Einstellungen

iPhone Firmware Upgrade
20 08 2008Is there anybody out there who has done a firmware upgrade to 2.0 with an iphone 2G from jailbraked 1.1.4 version using ziphone? There are so much rumours about the 2.0 firmware beeing released after hot needling it together, application bugs, resets and so on. Any info there, please comment here, I would appreciate every single input.
